General Morphological Analysis as a Basic Scientific Modelling Method
نویسنده
چکیده
General Morphological Analysis (GMA) is a method for structuring a conceptual problem space – called a morphospace – and, through a process of existential combinatorics, synthesising a solution space. As such, it is a basic modelling method, on a par with other scientific modelling methods including System Dynamics Modelling, Bayesian Networks and various types graph-based “influence diagrams”. The purpose of this article is 1) to present the theoretical and methodological basics of morphological modelling; 2) to situate GMA within a broader modelling theoretical framework by developing a (morphological) model representing different modelling methods, and 3) to demonstrate some of the basic modelling techniques that can be carried out with GMA using dedicated computer support.

Outline for a Morphology of Modelling Methods Contribution to a General Theory of Modelling
The purpose of this article is to classify and compare – in essence to model – a number of different types of modelling methods employed within Operations Research and the Management Sciences (OR/MS). The classification of these methods is based on a selected number of generally recognised modelling properties. On the basis of this meta-model, requirements for the successful application of diff...
متن کاملGeneral Morphological Analysis A general method for non-quantified modelling
Fritz Zwicky pioneered the development of General Morphological Analysis (GMA) as a method for investigating the totality of relationships contained in multi-dimensional, nonquantifiable problem complexes. During the past two decades, GMA has been extended, computerised and employed for structuring complex policy and planning issues, developing scenario and strategy laboratories, and analyzing ...
متن کاملMULTI FRACTURE/DELAMINATION ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITES SUBJECTED TO IMPACT LOADINGS
A combined finite/ discrete element method is presented for modelling of composite specimens subjected to dynamic/impact loadings. The main task is set on developing an algorithm for simulation of potential bonding and debonding/delamination phenomena during impact or general dynamic loading conditions. In addition, full fracture analysis can also be performed. The proposed approach adopts a ge...

Introduction: Considering the fact that the health reform plan has been implemented for five years, it is necessary to re-evaluate the plan and adapt it to the needs and macro policies of our society. Therefore, the current study aimed to use health-related scientific evidences together with the experiences, opinion, and expertise of field professionals to achieve priorities for health refor...
متن کاملCOMPUTING SCIENCE A Comparison of Formalisms for Modelling and Analysis of Dynamic Reconfiguration of Dependable Systems
This paper uses a case study to evaluate three formalisms of different kinds for their suitability for the modelling and analysis of dynamic reconfiguration of dependable systems. The reconfiguration of an office workflow for order processing is described. The requirements on the workflow's reconfiguration and general reconfiguration requirements are defined. The workflow is modelled using the ...
